Graduate profile

Description
The curriculum contains information and knowledge from the study field of electrical engineering enriched with knowledge from the field of mechanical engineering. Within the field of study, the knowledge of biomedical engineering is also reflected, in which students acquire knowledge in the field of sensors of electrical and non-electrical quantities, programming of processors, design and functionality of medical devices and their physical principles. At the same time, they will acquire knowledge of natural and medical sciences. The knowledge, skills and competences of the graduate of the Biomedical Engineering study programme in the third cycle of study are in line with the supporting themes of the core knowledge of the study field of electrical engineering.
Learning objectives
The qualification of the third degree of university studies in the study program Biomedical Engineering is awarded to students who: - possess highly professional competencies in the biomedical engineering study program - learn systematically approach solving problems arising from medical and biomedical practice - develop a creative scientific approach in the search for optimal solutions through critical thinking and the creation of new and complex concepts - develop the ability to communicate their opinions and knowledge in the space of the lay and professional public - and they are also gain experience in presenting the results of their scientific outputs and pedagogical knowledge.
Main learning outcomes
A graduate of the third degree in the Biomedical Engineering study program masters the issues of anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, implantology and measurement. Graduates are qualified to work in biomedical laboratories and hospitals as medical technicians, etc. - students are able to systematically approach solving problems arising from medical and biomedical practice - also they are able to use a scientific approach when coming up with optimal solutions through critical thinking and the synthesis of new and complex concepts - they are able to communicate their opinions and knowledge in the space of the lay and professional public - they are able to further develop and support the subject area in wider dimensions, i.e. also in the sphere of technical, social and cultural progress - they have the ability to communicate, solve and implement the results of research in interdisciplinary areas - a graduate of the biomedical engineering department (3rd degree) masters the scientific formulation of problem solving, which he sees and understands in the interdisciplinary contexts given by the technical, legal, economic, ethical and environmental aspects of the solved complex task. - And students who contributed basic and applied research to the expansion of the boundaries of scientific knowledge through the publication of scientific works in foreign and domestic journals in the Current Content database.
Professions

Employability

Evaluation of the study programme graduates employability
Graduates of the third degree of the biomedical engineering study program have a high rate of employment in the field. They mainly occupy work positions in the field of research and development, design, production and verification of medical devices and equipment, in biomedical engineering or as assistant professors at universities. They are rated very well by employers and are in high demand on the labor market. Below is the available information from the uplatnenie.sk portal obtained from respondents who graduated from the biomedical engineering study program: Year: 2018 Source: https://uplatnenie.sk/?degree=V%C5%A0&vs=709000000&faculty=709030000&field=2664V00&year=2018 Due to the low number of graduates, no application data is available. Characteristics of the information provision
Access to study literature and information databases is provided through the TUKE University Library: http://www.lib.tuke.sk/Library/Home/DigitalLibrary The library fund of UK TUKE consists of its own funds (books, scripts, anthologies, magazines, theses and electronic media). In 2022, the library fund consisted of 172,878 book units. The annual addition to the library is over 3,000 book units. The study room contains basic and supplementary study literature, magazines, anthologies, encyclopedias, language and educational dictionaries. Users have free access to them. As part of the lending services, users borrow approximately 5,000 book units annually. The university library has barrier-free access to 2 elevators and 2 barrier-free toilets. There are 650 study places and more than 300 places with electrical sockets for charging laptops and mobile phones. The library has 32 desktop computers with Internet connection, intranet, Wi-Fi network and access to databases of electronic periodicals. Through the library's Copycenter, students have access to printing and reprographic services provided on 12 printers, 3 of which are large-capacity for oversized printing. The library also has its own digitization workplace with a scanning robot, as well as a book scanner for the public, which is located in the study room. Currently, the library fund is being built not only on a physical level (print and USB, CD, DVD), but also a repository of digitized books from the library fund on the MediaINFO platform, containing over 600 titles, is being developed. Access to information technologies is ensured through ÚVT TUKE: https://uvt.tuke.sk/wps/portal/uv/software
E-learning
Study materials are available through the Microsoft Teams software platform supporting educational activities and collaborative study or the Moodle e-learning portal, which is also used to verify students' knowledge and the level of achievement of planned educational outcomes. Lectures, exercises or consultations with students also take place via the CISCO Webex communication platform. Access to these tools is free for both TUKE employees and students. https://uvt.tuke.sk/wps/portal/uv/software/microsoft-office365 https://uvt.tuke.sk/wps/portal/uv/sluzby/webex/prihlasenie-sa-do-webex http://moodle.tuke.sk/
