Graduate profile

Description
A graduate of the engineering study program architecture and urbanism, which is mainly oriented towards strengthening creativity, has complex knowledge to handle the given task, the ability to coordinate a wide range of experts entering the creation process and the competence of the author to take responsibility for the completed work. He understands the facts, concepts, principles and theory of the creation of architecture and urbanism, which he can analyze from the point of view of concrete functional, social, economic and ecological requirements.
Learning objectives
A graduate of the architecture and urban planning engineering study will acquire extensive professional knowledge in several areas of the field of study. He will acquire the ability to apply knowledge about theory, history of architecture and urban construction, knowledge about visual arts, humanities and environmental sciences, about construction and technical problems, about technical equipment and technologies, as well as knowledge from the field of research and preparation of project documentation, about urban design, planning and skills used in the planning process when designing architectural works and urban units of various sizes. He will understand the cultural, historical, social and economic relationship of the created work in the context of the immediate surroundings and the wider environment, and he will understand the role of the architect, urban planner towards the client and society, which depends on his cultivated, analytical and creative thinking. He will also master specific skills important in designing, necessary to meet the requirements of users of buildings within the limits determined by price factors and requirements for building construction. Acquires a high degree of independence in solving problems and projects from the field of study in a changing environment. He will be comprehensively, practically and theoretically prepared for independent architectural and urban creation, designing and realization of architectural and urban works with the assumption of leading and coordinating a work team. He is able to independently solve tasks from the level of spatial planning, urban units through the architecture of buildings to artistic and technical details, including interiors and exteriors of buildings, their reconstructions and conversions, restoration of heritage-protected buildings and ensembles, while applying the latest knowledge of the field and related fields in an original way. He will be able to cooperate in the architectural rendering of engineering constructions as well as in the artistic finishing of constructions.
Main learning outcomes
The graduate has extensive professional knowledge at the evaluation level about theory, history of architecture and urban construction, about fine arts, humanities and environmental sciences, about construction and technical problems, about technical equipment and technologies and knowledge in the field of research and preparation of project documentation, about urban design, planning and skills used in the planning process. He can design architectural works and urban units of various sizes. He is able to understand the cultural, historical, social and economic relationship of the created work in the context of the immediate surroundings and the wider environment and to understand the role of the architect, urban planner towards the client and society, using cultivated analytical and creative-synthetic thinking. He has specific skills important in design, necessary to meet the requirements of the users of buildings within the limitations determined by price factors and requirements for building construction, as well as limitations resulting from requirements for the use of buildings by persons with limited ability to move and orient and from the requirements for environmental sustainability. The graduate demonstrates a high degree of independence in solving problems and projects in the field of study in a changing environment. He is comprehensively, practically and theoretically prepared for independent architectural and urban creation, designing and realization of architectural and urban works, as well as works of garden and landscape architecture, with the assumption of leading and coordinating a work team. He can independently solve tasks from the level of land-use planning, urban units through the architecture of buildings to artistic and technical details, including interiors and exteriors of buildings, their reconstructions and conversions, restoration of heritage-protected buildings and ensembles, while applying the latest knowledge of the field of study in an original way. He is able to cooperate in the architectural rendering of engineering constructions and in the artistic finishing of constructions. A graduate of a study program preparing for the regulated profession of an architect has knowledge, skills and competences, the scope and structure of which is defined by the university after taking into account the relevant opinion of the Slovak Chamber of Architects and which are in accordance with the requirements of the relevant national and European legislation and which include: a) the ability to create architectural and urban designs that meet aesthetic and technical requirements, b) adequate knowledge of the history and theory of architecture, related arts, technical disciplines and related social sciences and humanities, c) knowledge of visual arts as one of the factors affecting the quality of an architectural work, d) adequate knowledge of urban planning, spatial planning and skills associated with the planning process, e) understanding the relationship between a person and an architectural work and between architectural works and the surrounding environment; understanding the necessity to design architectural works and the spaces between them in accordance with human needs and on a human scale, f) the ability to understand the profession of an architect and his role in society, especially when preparing proposals that take social factors into account, g) understanding of research methods and preparation of documents for project development, h) the ability to understand the structural design of the building, the construction and technical problems associated with the design of the building, i) adequate knowledge of physics and technical elements in the functioning of buildings, in order to provide the well-being of the internal environment and protection from the effects of the weather, j) necessary skills for designing in order to satisfy the requirements of the user of the work within the limitations given by cost factors and construction regulations, k) adequate knowledge of industries, organizations, regulations and processes that enter into the transformation of proposals into realized work and the integration of projects into overall planning. The graduate is able to work effectively independently, as a member of a team or to manage and coordinate a work team in designing, projecting and implementing constructions that need a zoning decision and building permit, including author supervision during implementation, as well as developing spatial planning documentation of all levels. He is qualified for professional and management activities in state administration, municipal self-government and the commercial sphere. He has creative, innovative and critical thinking and is ready to professionally present the course of work and the results of his own creative work in front of a professional audience, including in a foreign language.

Characteristics of the information provision
TU in Košice has sufficient material, technical and information security (library, study rooms, availability of information resources via the Internet, availability of basic study literature, textbooks, monographs and foreign scientific journals, software equipment, access to the necessary databases. International electronic information resources and information databases such as: Web of Science, SCOPUS, Current Contents Connect - database of suspended journals, Journal Citation Reports, Essential Science Indicators, ACM Digital Library, EBSCO, IEEE/IET Electronic are available on computers connected to the TUKE network. Library, Knovel Library, ProQuest, Science Direct, Springer LINK, Wiley-Blackwell, Gale Virtual Reference Library. Every year, the University Library fund is updated and supplemented with domestic and foreign literature, focusing on all scientific areas of individual faculties of the Technical University. Also available are Interlibrary loan services, Education and training, Records of publication activities of TUKE staff, ISBN number allocation. The AaU Department of the TUKE Faculty of Arts has specialized laboratories with the necessary technical and technological equipment for the Design study program in order to be able to implement and develop the evaluated study program and meet its educational goals.
