Graduate profile

Description
A graduate of the Engineering Technologies and Materials study program will acquire deep knowledge of materials, knowledge of the processes of conventional and progressive engineering technologies. He understands and knows how to evaluate and optimize technological processes and production procedures using innovative solutions and scientific methods. He is able to create simulation models and solve tasks using CAx technologies, design material solutions for specific structures and apply experimental and innovative methods of the field.
Learning objectives
The doctoral student will learn to characterize and understand the laws of physical metallurgy, physics of materials and purposefully use the acquired knowledge when designing technological processes in science, research and practice. He will develop his knowledge mainly in the area of current methods of testing materials, evaluating their structures, predicting the properties of materials based on their internal structure, in the area of introducing modern technologies and optimizing production processes with regard to the quality and economy of production. The study will enable the doctoral student to acquire comprehensive theoretical knowledge, practical experience and master the methodologies of independent scientific work in the fields of engineering technologies. During his studies, he will acquire the skills and methods of scientific research associated with the field, which correspond to the current state of scientific knowledge, and through his own creative activity will contribute to the acquisition of new knowledge in this field. The graduate is capable of critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis of new complex concepts of engineering solutions. In the course of the first nominal year, the student acquires knowledge mainly of a theoretical nature, which builds on the knowledge of II. degree of study. He will acquire deep knowledge of the subjects of a broader scientific basis in the field of materials science and modern processing technologies, as well as advanced knowledge of the processes of conventional and progressive engineering technologies. Modeling and simulation of technological processes using CAx technologies, designing production processes and systems, assessing the technology and quality of products are also part of the theoretical preparation. In the next years of the study, the experimental, scientific and innovative methods of the field are applied in the solution of the dissertation. Part of the study is also the language preparation of the doctoral student with an emphasis on professional terminology in order to ensure the possibility of presenting the results of one's own research to the international scientific community as well as to the lay public.
Main learning outcomes
• apply professional and scientific knowledge from material and technological scientific disciplines • analyze material and technological problems and create engineering solutions by applying acquired knowledge • evaluate and optimize technological processes and production procedures using innovative solutions and scientific methods • create simulation models and solve tasks using CAx technologies • propose material solutions for specific structural nodes • apply experimental and innovative methods of the department • design and optimize the process parameters of modern processing technologies • design and implement an engineering experiment for the identification of unknown parameters or the verification of product or process properties • communicate in one world language at a professional level • use information technology in the control and management of technological processes

Evaluation of the study programme quality by employers
Engineering technologies and materials were evaluated by the representative of Askozvar, s.r.o. - Ing. Jozef Zohn, PhD. He had the following recommendation regarding the structure and content of the study plan: The composition of some subjects is very general, which can limit the student's access to specific knowledge and parameters in practice. He has no comments on the profile of the ŠP graduate. He has the following comment on the employment of graduates in professions and the qualifications obtained: Graduates often have enough general information, but specific professions often require specific - concrete knowledge. ŠP agrees with personnel security. ŠP agrees with spatial, material and technical security. It also agrees with the monitoring and securing system of the ŠP. Overall assessment: SP fulfills sector-specific expectations, requirements of practice and the labor market.

Characteristics of the information provision
Access to study literature and information databases is provided through the TUKE University Library: http://www.lib.tuke.sk/Library/Home/DigitalLibrary The library fund of UK TUKE consists of its own funds (books, scripts, anthologies, magazines, theses and electronic media). In 2022, the library fund consisted of 172,878 book units. The annual addition to the library is over 3,000 book units. The study room contains basic and supplementary study literature, magazines, anthologies, encyclopedias, language and educational dictionaries. Users have free access to them. As part of the lending services, users borrow approximately 5,000 book units annually. The university library has barrier-free access to 2 elevators and 2 barrier-free toilets. There are 650 study places and more than 300 places with electrical sockets for charging laptops and mobile phones. The library has 32 desktop computers with Internet connection, intranet, Wi-Fi network and access to databases of electronic periodicals. Through the library's Copycenter, students have access to printing and reprographic services provided on 12 printers, 3 of which are large-capacity for oversized printing. The library also has its own digitization workplace with a scanning robot, as well as a book scanner for the public, which is located in the study room. Currently, the library fund is being built not only on a physical level (print and USB, CD, DVD), but also a repository of digitized books from the library fund on the MediaINFO platform, containing over 600 titles, is being developed. Access to information technologies is ensured through ÚVT TUKE: https://uvt.tuke.sk/wps/portal/uv/software
