Graduate profile
DescriptionThe Power Machines and Equipment study program and installations offers the opportunity to obtain a third degree of higher education. The third level of study, which is more narrowly focused on the problem, will create the prerequisites for the purposeful formation of the graduate's professional profile, which will take on a concrete form in the conditions of technical practice. In accordance with the current needs of the national economy, this part of the study is focused on the issue of the construction of prototype machines and equipment, the use of alternative energy sources (solar, wind and geothermal energy, biomass energy, waste, etc.), research in the field of hydrogen technologies and thermal treatment of waste plasma technology. During his studies, the graduate of the department will develop a systematic approach to solving technical problems, acquire knowledge in the field of design, construction of energy machines, use of modern calculation methods and is ready for independent creative and research activities.
Learning objectives
Graduates possess extensive expertise of this discipline to be used as the basis for their research and development activities and for implementing the acquired knowledge in power processes, power machines and equipment. The doctoral degree in the Power Machines and Equipment study program is awarded to students who: • possess expertise and methodological knowledge of multiple disciplines of this field of study, practical knowledge obtained through research activities carried out during their internships in universities and research centres abroad, which they will apply to innovations and original ideas for practical applications or research activities; • are capable of designing, implementing and evaluating solutions to methodical, technical, practical or scientific issues in multiple disciplines of this field of study or real-life operations; • are capable of formulating recommendations for the development of the given science discipline of field of work; • are capable of creating manuals, realisation projects and evaluation procedures for the activities carried out in the given field of study and study program; • are able to provide a qualified assessment of scientific or practical designs when solving various issues; • are capable of developing their ability to communicate their opinions and knowledge to the lay public and experts; • are capable of obtaining experience in presenting the outputs of their scientific and pedagogical expertise.
Main learning outcomes
Graduates possess extensive expertise in several disciplines of this field of study, which they subsequently use as the basis for their research and development activities and for creating new knowledge in the field of power machines and equipment. In the respective field of research, they are capable of selecting specific scientific methods for the basic and applied research in individual power engineering disciplines. Graduates are capable of formulating new hypotheses and strategies for further research and development within this field of study and study program. They apply the outputs of their own theoretical analyses and complex scientific research when solving issues in the field of power machines and equipment. On the basis of their own outputs, they are capable of designing, verifying and implementing new scientific and work procedures. They practically master selected scientific methods and use them when developing new methodologies, procedures, technologies, technical details and important interactive system interconnections. While using the computer support, they are capable of performing research, analyses, modelling, measurements, collection and processing of data. Graduates demonstrate independent, critical and analytical thinking and apply it in changing conditions. They are capable of autonomous presentation of the results of their research and development activities to the communities of experts in the Slovak Republic and abroad. When formulating their research objectives and interpreting research outputs, they take into account the social, scientific and ethical aspects. They are capable of determining research targets and coordinating teams operating in the respective science discipline. Graduates of the Power Machines and Equipment study program: • are able to take a systematic approach when solving issues arising from real-life technical operations; • demonstrate high-level autonomy and foresight in known and unknown environments; • take initiative and demonstrate responsibility for managing their work teams; • have innovative and creative thinking; • are able to professionally present results of their own study or practical experience; • through their basic and applied research, they can contribute to extending the limits of scientific knowledge by publishing scientific papers in domestic and foreign publications.
