Graduate profile

Description
Geological research, exploration and extraction of mineral resources, as well as the quality of the environment are an integral part of the development of every company. Rational mining significantly affects not only economic development, but also the environmental balance of our planet. The content of the study program of the 3rd degree Mining Geology and Geological Survey synergistically connects the final efforts of geoscience departments to search for, value and effectively use mineral and energy raw materials, as well as to actively work in the protection and evaluation of the abiotic area of the environment. PhD graduates of the presented study program have irreplaceable employment in geoscience departments of universities, in research, design and implementation institutions dealing with the search, forecasting and rational use of all kinds of mineral and energy raw materials and geoscientific solutions for the stability of underground geotechnical and tunnel constructions. They will be able to participate in decision-making processes in matters of effective use of land resources and integrated environmental protection at all levels of state and public administration. Graduates will also be employed in areas dealing with geoenvironmental disciplines at both research and application levels.
Learning objectives
The aim of the education of students in the study program of the 3rd degree Mining Geology and Geological Survey is their acquisition of a constructive approach to the solution of the given problem using a multidisciplinary approach by integrating knowledge from related scientific disciplines and the subsequent realization of new results. This approach consists in: -complex critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis of solved problems in the field of mining geology and geological survey based on a multidisciplinary approach in the introduction of the latest scientific concepts - scientific research and the contribution of alternative or original solutions in the field of geological research and exploration. In addition to the hitherto customary geological survey, they bring solutions for the geological survey of unconventional deposits, solutions in the field of non-traditional use of deposits of mineral raw materials and energy sources and in the field of the abiotic component of the environment, - the ability to formulate synthesizing conclusions, develop and manage scientific and technical projects, - independent solution of problems of professional and technical practice corresponding to his professional profile, - communication and presentation of the results of one's own scientific and research work at an international professional level, but also in the field of communication with the general public Graduates of this study program will acquire the ability to: - select and define problems in the search for new proposals and solutions in the scientific and applied field - use a multidisciplinary approach to solve defined problems independently solve scientific problems and problems of professional-technical practice corresponding to his professional profile - specify the use of research and survey outputs for solving specific problems in the field of mining geology and geological survey - to conceive synthesizing closures, develop and manage scientific and technical projects - apply geological knowledge in the pre-project and project preparation of geotechnical works and in solving problems of rational use of the geological environment.
Main learning outcomes
Graduates III. degree in the field of study Mining Geology and Geological Survey master the scientific methods of geological research and exploration in the field of search, evaluation and economically and environmentally efficient exploitation of deposits of mineral energy resources. They master and know how to apply in practice the latest research trends in the broad field of engineering geology, hydrogeology, environmental geology with the aim of sustainable development of the environment. By acquiring special knowledge of geodynamics, structural geology, tectogenesis, sedimentology, geostatistics and modeling of mineral deposits and potential risks of geotechnical interventions in the landscape, they will be able to propose solutions, conceive alternative approaches to solving problems, accurately reevaluate the professional and economic potential of alternative approaches and justify the optimal an alternative. They have the latest knowledge in the field of the search for mineral and energy resources, starting from the methodology of geological exploration, which will be proposed with a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach based on the knowledge gained through the study, through the design of methods for effective extraction of mineral resources, evaluation of the risk of environmental threats and its maximum reduction, and up to the rehabilitation of the environment after the end of mining. The graduate will create, use and participate in acquiring new theoretical knowledge related to the scope of his study work. He will use these theoretical knowledge for the interpretation and analysis of synthesized views on the results of geological research and exploration.

Evaluation of the study programme quality by employers
The study program at FBERG TUKE is fully implemented with the needs of real practice. Since the communication between education at FBERG TUKE and employers is continuous, it consists in solving joint projects with the involvement of students, in solving research tasks of a commercial nature, it uses professionals from companies in the process of completing studies by membership in state examination commissions at the relevant level of higher education, the faculty reflects the demands of employers graduates of the given study program and critically evaluates them with trends abroad. The State Geological Institute of Dionýz Štúr issues a favorable opinion on the compliance of the obtained qualifications of the graduates of the Faculty of Mining, Ecology, Management and Geotechnologies of the Technical University in Košice ((FBERG TUKE) with sector-specific requirements for the performance of the profession. The company Geoum, s.r.o. issues a favorable opinion on the compliance of the obtained qualifications of the graduates of the Faculty of Mining, Ecology, Management and Geotechnologies of the Technical University in Košice ((FBERG TUKE)) with the sector-specific requirements for the performance of the profession. Characteristics of the information provision
For the development of the study program, the departments of the Technical University of Košice (TUKE) use the rich library fund of the University Library (UK), the mission of which is the information security of scientific research and the pedagogical process at TUKE. The digital library of the UK (http://www.lib.tuke.sk) is also available to TUKE students and employees, which provides: lending services; consulting services; reference services; digital services; MVS and MKVS service; education and training for writing theses. Library services are concentrated in UK TUKE, which include all activities from searching in the library fund to searching for information in the online catalog and available databases (Springer Link, Science Direct, IEEExplore, etc.), to making specific documents available in print or electronic form in the UK fund (the total number of documents is 186966, of which 64228 books, 40046 textbooks, 7779 anthologies, 6341 bound periodicals, 7718 electronic documents, 31846 final and qualification theses). Students have access to the Internet on the school premises and in the dormitories via a WiFi connection, which allows them unrestricted access to library services. The MAIS academic information system http://mais.tuke.sk/ ensures the entry, processing and provision of information about the admissions process (submission of the application, results, overviews), about the study (subject information sheets, timetable, registration for exams, results of interim and final evaluations, submission of final theses, assessments for final theses, etc.).
