Graduate profile

Description
The Renewable Energy and Sustainable Energy study program is focused on education and training to ensure that the graduate has general knowledge in the areas of renewable energy use and at the same time has an overview of renewable energy technologies, understands the concept of sustainable energy and energy self-sufficiency. He/she can assess and design the optimal energy mix from the perspective of sustainability on a national and local scale. He/she is able to design conceptual solutions and work in a technological profession that requires knowledge of energy technologies with an emphasis on renewable energy sources at the design and modeling level, including legislation and solutions to the environmental side of energy security. The study program provides education in the field of energy production (transformation), energy carriers, energy storage and production of emissions from energy sources with an emphasis on renewable energy sources. The graduate is prepared to develop sustainable energy systems in the context of global plans and goals for sustainability and climate change. The program offers students knowledge and understanding of the relationship between economics, energy and environmental sustainability based on technical and analytical processes. Within the program, students acquire skills in simulations of energy processes, in designing energy technologies for both individual types of energy sources and the resulting energy mix with the aim of optimizing it from a sustainability perspective. The educational process is focused on critical thinking, innovation, openness and creativity in the approach to solving tasks related to the issue of sustainable energy with the aim of their application in practice. Within the study program, solutions to methodological, professional or practical problems are applied and creative methods, tools, devices, materials, software and applications are used. In addition to technical aspects, the program is also focused on understanding and analyzing the relationships between the availability of raw materials and energy resources and the needs of human society, including the dynamics of phenomena that occur in it. Within the program, students gain information about the related historical, political, economic, social and environmental aspects of the implementation of sustainable energy on a global and regional scale.
Learning objectives
A graduate of the engineering study program Renewable energy sources and sustainable energy has knowledge and skills in the field of ensuring the energy needs of society with an optimal energy mix from the point of view of availability, technical and economic demands and sustainability. The goal is to achieve graduate education on a natural science basis focused on the analysis of the principles of technical, informational, economic, entrepreneurial, managerial, production and operational aspects of the use of renewable energy sources with an emphasis on the sustainability of the resulting energy mix. These aspects are used in the design of renewable energy source technologies in specialized software and applications used in design practice. He applies his knowledge and skills with a high degree of creativity and independence and is involved in research and development. The emphasis is on the graduate, depending on the profile, to acquire deep knowledge in the field of renewable energy sources, their technical, informational, economic, managerial, production and logistical support. He has the ability to manage teams of workers in this area, independently leads large projects and takes responsibility for complex solutions. The graduate implements and evaluates solutions to methodological, professional, artistic, practical or scientific problems from several areas of the field or practice and creates instructions, implementation projects and evaluation procedures for activities from the field. It develops a whole range of applications in the field of renewable energy sources, in which it applies its comprehensive knowledge of advanced methods, means and techniques. Communicates conclusions, findings and justifications to both experts and lay audiences. He has developed educational skills that allow him to continue further self-study. The graduate is characterized by a high degree of independence and foresight in both familiar and unfamiliar environments, initiative and responsibility for managing the work of a work team, innovative, creative thinking, professional presentation of results, own studies or practice.

Employability

Evaluation of the study programme graduates employability
Due to the fact that renewable resources are in the process of expansion and rapid use, there is a possibility of graduates being employed.
Evaluation of the study programme quality by employers
The Renewable Energy Sources and Sustainable Energy study program at FBERG TUKE is fully implemented in accordance with the needs of real practice. Communication between the OZE department, where the study program is implemented, and employers is continuous, consists in solving joint projects with the involvement of students, in solving research tasks of a commercial nature, uses company professionals in the process of completing studies by membership in state examination committees at the relevant level of higher education, the faculty reflects the requirements of employers for graduates of the given study program and critically evaluates them with trends abroad. OZE Energia s.r.o. issues a favorable opinion on the compliance of the acquired qualifications of graduates of the Faculty of Mining, Ecology, Management and Geotechnologies of the Technical University of Košice (FBERG TUKE) with sector-specific requirements for the performance of the profession. HSH Group issues a positive opinion on the compliance of the acquired qualifications of graduates of the Faculty of Mining, Ecology, Management and Geotechnology of the Technical University of Košice (FBERG TUKE) with sector-specific requirements for the performance of the profession.
