Graduate profile
DescriptionThe study program Renewable Energy Sources and Sustainable Energy is focused on education and training to ensure that the graduate has general knowledge in the field of renewable energy sources, including an overview of renewable energy technologies, understands the concept of sustainable energy and energy self-sufficiency. He knows the principle of the optimal energy mix from the perspective of sustainability on a national and local scale. He is able to design conceptual solutions and work in a technological profession that requires knowledge of energy technologies with an emphasis on renewable energy sources, including legislation and solutions to the environmental side of energy security. The study program provides education in the field of energy production (transformation), energy carriers, energy storage and emissions production from energy sources with an emphasis on renewable energy sources. The graduate is prepared to develop sustainable energy systems in the context of global sustainability and climate change plans and goals. The program offers science-based education focused on understanding and mastering the basic principles of the technical, informational, economic, business, managerial, production and operational aspects of the use of renewable energy sources with an emphasis on the sustainability of the resulting energy mix.
Learning objectives
A graduate of the bachelor's study program Renewable Energy Sources and Sustainable Energy will acquire knowledge and skills in the field of ensuring the energy needs of society with an optimal energy mix in terms of availability, technical and economic complexity and sustainability. The structure of professional knowledge and skills is primarily oriented towards practical and methodological analyses and procedures for the use of renewable and alternative energy sources and fuels (solar, wind, geothermal, hydropower, biomass energy, green hydrogen, nuclear energy, etc.) in the dimensions of both large-scale power engineering (electricity and heat production), as well as on the scale of the municipal sphere and individual energy systems for households, or alternative fuels in transport. All this in the context of broad connections, especially technical, economic, environmental, legislative and social. The educational process is implemented in such a way that the result is critical thinking, openness and creativity in the approach to solving tasks related to the issue of sustainable energy with the aim of their application in practice. The aim of the program is to educate students so that they have the ability to make ethical and socially responsible decisions about sustainable energy systems, based on the knowledge and skills acquired, with an emphasis on minimizing environmental impacts. Renewable energy sources and sustainable energy are presented within the program as an alternative, supplement or complete replacement of existing energy sources, while the student is guided to independently design a sustainable energy system and assess its technical, economic, environmental and social impacts.
Main learning outcomes
A graduate of the bachelor's study program Renewable Energy Sources and Sustainable Energy has general knowledge and skills at the level of analysis and synthesis of one or more areas of energy resource utilization with an emphasis on renewable resources. He/she knows the basic types of energy systems of all levels and is able to independently assess the available potential and possibilities of applying renewable resources in given systems with an emphasis on reducing the negative impacts of energy on the environment. He/she is able to work in a technological profession that requires knowledge of energy technologies with an emphasis on renewable energy sources. He/she can classify energy sources, has a comprehensive orientation in the issue of renewable energy sources, while the acquired knowledge has a significantly interdisciplinary character. He/she understands the scientific basis, the basic principles of the technical, information, economic, business, managerial, production and operational aspects of the issue. He/she has the skills to interpret information, concepts, principles, problems and solutions to both professional and lay audiences. He/She is able to use information to an appropriate extent to propose the use of individual renewable energy sources, as well as their combinations in an energy system of smaller sources. He/She has developed the educational skills necessary to continue further studies with a high degree of independence. He/She is able to work in a technological profession that requires knowledge of energy technologies with an emphasis on renewable energy sources, in a company dealing with energy sources, including legislative solutions to the issue and solutions to the environmental side of providing energy from renewable and non-renewable sources.
Professions
Professions for which the graduate is prepared at the time of completion.
Employability
Evaluation of the study programme graduates employabilityDue to the fact that renewable resources are in the process of expansion and rapid use, there is a possibility of graduates being employed.
Evaluation of the study programme quality by employers
The Renewable Energy Sources and Sustainable Energy study program at FBERG TUKE is fully implemented in accordance with the needs of real practice. Communication between the RES department, where the study program is implemented, and employers is continuous, consists in solving joint projects with the involvement of students, in solving research tasks of a commercial nature, uses company professionals in the process of completing studies by membership in state examination committees at the relevant level of higher education, the faculty reflects the requirements of employers for graduates of the given study program and critically evaluates them with trends abroad.

Characteristics of the information provision
The departments of the Technical University of Košice (TUKE) use the rich library collection of the University Library (UK) for the development of the study program, the mission of which is to provide information for scientific research and the pedagogical process at TUKE. The digital library of UK (http://www.lib.tuke.sk) is also available to students and employees of TUKE, which provides: lending services; consulting services; reference services; digital services; MVS and MKVS services; education and training for writing final theses. Library services are concentrated in the UK TUKE, which include all activities from searching the library collection through searching for information in the online catalog and available databases (Springer Link, Science Direct, IEEExplore, etc.), to making specific documents available in print or electronic form in the UK collection (the total number of documents is 186966, of which 64228 books, 40046 textbooks, 7779 proceedings, 6341 bound periodicals, 7718 electronic documents, 31846 final and qualification theses). Students have access to the Internet on the school campus and in the dormitories via WiFi connection, which allows them unlimited access to library services. The MAIS academic information system http://mais.tuke.sk/ ensures the entry, processing and provision of information on the admission procedure (application submission, results, overviews), on the study (subject information sheets, timetable, registration for exams, results of interim and final assessments, submission of final theses, assessments of final theses, etc.).
