Graduate profile
DescriptionThe study is focused on university education of professional pilots and air traffic controllers and their preparation for jobs in civil and military aviation for which a given level of education is required. The content of the study is based on qualification prerequisites that have been created for EU countries and are embedded in the regulations for the qualification of pilots and air traffic controllers. General theoretical subjects included in the first year continue in the next two years as the specialised subjects defined by the European regulations of the EASA agency. The aim of university studies for the graduate is not only to obtain a comprehensive bachelor's education in the field, but also to prepare them according to the chosen specialization in order to take the ATPL theoretical exams, respectively exams according to Commission Regulation (EU) No. 2015/340, the execution of which is a necessary prerequisite for the issuance of a pilot's license or an air traffic controller's license. The theoretical study is organized in such a way that the student has the opportunity to complete practical flight training in selected training organizations during their studies. The study is completed by a state exam and the final required defence of the bachelor's thesis.
Learning objectives
The study is aimed at the aviation education of university-educated experts in the specialization of piloting aircraft and in the specialization of air traffic control. The goal of education is the training of aviation specialists for air transport operators (specific air operators) and air traffic service companies, or for the performance of other types of aviation work for which one of the higher types of lecences is required, an aircraft pilot licence or an air traffic controller licence with corresponding qualifications.
Main learning outcomes
The profile of a graduate of the "Pilot" bachelor's study program is determined by key educational outcomes, which: a) correspond to the mission of the Technical University in Košice in the field of Transport, for the training of pilots and air traffic controllers; b) correspond to the relevant level of the qualification, the first level of university education; c) correspond to the field of knowledge of the relevant field of Transport, which respects the requirements and standards for theoretical training and training according to international and national aviation rules, regulations and directives; d) reflect the composition of profile study subjects expressed in the recommended study plan for the student (a content, structure, sequence); e) are linked to a prospective career application on the domestic and foreign labour market for the profession of aircraft pilot or air traffic controller; f) are verifiable as part of the bachelor's study at the Aviation Faculty of the Technical University in Košice (within the course and final evaluation of subjects; by preparing and defending a bachelor's thesis and successfully passing the state exam), are recorded in the electronic system MAIS - Modular Academic Information System, and archived . A graduate of the "Pilot" bachelor's study program will receive: a) Knowledge – broad knowledge and understanding in the specialized field of piloting aircraft and air traffic control, including knowledge of practical contexts and relationships, according to the requirements defined in international and national aviation rules, regulations and directives, in both standard and non-standard situations for the performance of the profession; the graduate will acquire knowledge from theoretical disciplines in the specialized field of aircraft piloting and air traffic control in accordance with the description in the field of Transport from the System of Study Fields of the Slovak Republic; the goal of education is to acquire factual, conceptual, procedural and metacognitive knowledge for piloting aircraft and air traffic control, which create a cognitive dimension in the student to remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate and create. A key role is therefore played by profile subjects of study; b) Skills - able to solve practical tasks in the field of Transport - within the framework of piloting aircraft or air traffic control, using the usual procedural, research and development procedures, with a critical assessment of their suitability and appropriateness for the flight situation or flight operation; c) Competences - can independently acquire new knowledge and actively expand their knowledge for piloting aircraft or air traffic control, they can solve professional tasks and coordinate partial activities and take responsibility for the results of the team (aircraft flight crew; flight planning and monitoring team; at the workplace provider of air traffic services, etc.), including the application of acquired transferable skills that affect the personal development of students and can be used in their future career and life as active citizens in democratic societies; d) Transferable skills of graduates of the study program are skills that are not specifically tied to a specific job and profession of aviation personnel, but can be used and further developed in various situations and conditions; e.g. communication skills, mathematical skills, organizational skills, digital skills, analytical skills, interpersonal skills, creativity and the ability to think abstractly, the ability to think critically, mentoring and supervision skills, entrepreneurial skills, motivation and the ability to learn, reasoning in context, metacognitive skills. Characteristics of the information provision
PILOT study program: The University Library (UK) of the Technical University of Košice (TUKE) fulfils its mission mainly by building and making the library and information fund available and by providing comprehensive library and information services. Among the main services provided by UK TUKE to its clients are: acquisition and loan services, consultation services in study rooms with publicly accessible PCs with Internet connection, online catalogs of books, periodicals and technical standards, access to scientific databases, online books, electronic journals, interlibrary loan services, central registration and creation of a database of TUKE publication activities, central registration of electronic final theses of TUKE students, seminars and trainings in library and IT education, ISBN agenda, publishing and printing services. The services of the publishing centre also enable the creation of scientific publications even in the printing process. UK has built a modern library with a lot of new technologies, facilitating the work of students and employees of TUKE. It has secured 15 electronic databases for its clients. Searching for clients of the TUKE university network is ensured via the web portal of the UK digital library. The digital archive contains almost 90,000 digital publications by TUKE authors and more than 50,000 final theses of TUKE students. The UK has 165,000 library items in its database, of which there are more than 120,000 books and bound documents and 148 periodicals (73 foreign) and 42,000 documents for free selection in study halls. The basic information system for the education and teaching process at TUKE is the Modular Academic Information System
E-learning
PILOT study program: E-learning is an education/knowledge flow management system that allows not only to pass knowledge, but also to share it and monitor its development and get feedback on its effectiveness. E-learning represents the following functions: electronic processing of information, transfer of information using ICT to students, provision of services to students (e-service), distribution of products and services (DVD, Internet, etc.), management of the educational process (course administration). The BC. PILOT study program is accredited for face-to-face teaching in a daily form, with the possible use of the University LMS MOODLE - managed by the Institute of Computing Technology, providing services to the faculties as well as the faculty LMS MOODLE - managed by individual departments of the faculties, also for e-learning, according to the needs of students for achieving educational outcomes and TUKE management instructions, or faculties for the organization of education, e.g. in crisis situations (emergency situation, state of emergency, etc.). E-learning allows the use of most of the available information and communication tools, with which we can not only present the curriculum, but also verify and test the course of the learning process. Great importance is attached to the inclusion of feedback elements in the form of various surveys, polls, tests and questionnaires checking the understanding and mastery of the subject matter. The teaching text itself can be graphically structured, can contain multimedia, i.e. audio and video files, problem tasks, solved and unsolved examples, self-tests, etc.
