Graduate profile
DescriptionThe Quality, Safety, and Environment study program is designed to deepen students’ expertise in the fields of quality management, occupational safety and health, and environmental studies. Graduates are prepared to apply advanced managerial and analytical tools, manage risks, implement legislative requirements, and resolve complex production and crisis situations with an emphasis on quality, safety, and the environment.
Learning objectives
The educational objectives are focused on understanding the technical expertise in key areas of mechanical engineering, with an emphasis on applying this knowledge at the current level of technical understanding. They are also focused on understanding the areas of production quality, risk management, prevention of major industrial accidents, crisis management, and integrated management systems. The educational objectives of the Quality, Safety, and Environment study program are as follows: - apply a risk-based approach, - apply a process-based approach and methods for effective prevention in the human–machine–environment system from the perspective of system sustainability, - apply software tools for quality management and risk assessment, - analyze problems in the field of mechanical engineering and propose appropriate practical and innovative solutions, - creatively apply legislation for safe procedures and products with regard to quality, safety, and the environment, - analyze possibilities for modifying machinery with regard to quality, safety, and the environment, - analyze and apply methodologies for monitoring environmental quality and effectively propose measures to improve this quality.
Main learning outcomes
Graduates are prepared to work in teams and in team-lead roles, for example, in teams focused on simulation and risk management at all stages of a product’s technical lifecycle and industrial technologies, in management system audit teams, and in teams working to improve the quality of the living and working environment. They are capable of applying legislative requirements for an integrated management system, analyzing risks related to production quality, machine systems, and industrial technologies, as well as environmental impact as part of integrated safety. They understand the principles of prevention in the human-machine-environment system, apply methodologies and procedures for effective prevention, and analyze and apply risk management systems as part of improving the reliability and sustainability of industrial technologies, including the human factor and integrated management.

Study department
Spatial, material, and technical provision of the study programme and support
List and characteristics of the study programme classroomsThe department’s specialized laboratories and classrooms provide space not only for the department staff to conduct scientific research, but also for the professional training of students in specialized courses. The department has the following laboratories: - chemical and environmental analysis, physical environmental factors, modeling and simulation, environmental quality.
Characteristics of the information provision
Access to academic literature and information databases is provided through the TUKE University Library: https://www.lib.tuke.sk/#/dashboard The TUKE University Library’s collection consists of its own holdings (books, lecture notes, conference proceedings, journals, theses, and electronic media) . In 2022, the library collection comprised 172,878 items. The annual growth of the library is over 3,000 items. The reading room contains basic and supplementary study materials, journals, proceedings, encyclopedias, and language and reference dictionaries. Users have free access to these resources. Through the lending services, users borrow approximately 5,000 items annually. The library offers 32 desktop computers with internet and intranet connections, Wi-Fi access, and access to electronic journal databases. Through the library’s Copy Center, students have access to printing and reprographic services provided by 12 printers, 3 of which are high-capacity printers for oversized printing. The library also has its own digitization workstation with a scanning robot, as well as a book scanner for public use, located in the reading room. Currently, the library collection is being expanded not only in physical form (print, USB, CD, DVD), but a repository of digitized books from the library collection is also being developed on the MediaINFO platform, containing over 600 titles. Access to information technology is provided through the TUKE IT Department: https://uvt.tuke.sk/wps/portal/uv/software
E-learning
Access to course materials and resources for each course is provided through the MS TEAMS and MOODLE platforms. Electronic textbooks and lecture notes are also available to students via the https://ebooks.lib.tuke.sk/ portal.
