DescriptionA graduate of the engineering study program "Renewable energy sources" has deep and cross-sectional knowledge in a specialized field, including knowledge of contexts and relationships to related fields, knows and understands theories, methods and procedures that are used in the field. The graduate also has related knowledge of control systems, the basics of PC technology applications in the energy sector, management of centralized heat supply systems, the basics of management and economics, ecology and environmental protection, safety and health protection at work, etc.. He can solve problems, coordinate procedures in teams and independently and responsibly make decisions in a changing environment, is ready to take responsibility for their actions and decisions, taking into account wider social consequences. The graduate can formulate information about the procedure and results of solving tasks. He is able to perform and solve theoretical and practical tasks in the field using theory and research and development procedures, he is able to independently manage and creatively solve complex tasks of energy companies.
Learning objectives
The goal of the engineering study program "Renewable energy sources" is to continuously build on and develop the knowledge acquired in the first degree of university studies, so that the graduate is able to perform and secure leading and management positions in companies focused on the design, projecting, optimization and implementation of renewable energy sources. The graduate can independently manage and creatively solve complex tasks of energy companies. During his studies, he will learn to master the issue of preparation and processing of technical documentation, acquire knowledge about methods of calculating heat losses in objects, knowledge about designing heat sources, basic knowledge about types and equipment of boiler rooms, fuels and combustion. They will familiarize themselves in detail with the principles, operation and use of renewable energy sources such as heat pumps, photovoltaic cells, solar panels, biomass sources, recuperation units, etc., they will be able to calculate losses in distribution systems, they will gain a comprehensive view of the efficiency of heat production from the source to the to the consumer. Graduates will further gain knowledge about the management and operation of heating systems, with a focus on control technology and management structures. They will master the algorithms for controlling thermal systems in order to be able to formulate their requirements for specialists in the field of thermal technology programming. Based on the above, the knowledge, skills and competences of graduates correspond to the relevant level of the Qualification Framework in the European Higher Education Area. Knowledge (level 7): The graduate has deep and cross-sectional knowledge in a specialized field, including knowledge of contexts and relationships to related fields, knows and understands theories, methods and procedures that are used in the field, with possible application in science and research. Skills (Level 7): The graduate can actively acquire new knowledge and information, integrate and use them in applications for the development of the field, can creatively solve theoretical and practical tasks in the field using theory and research and development procedures, can contribute to the development of the field by acquiring new knowledge while solving the above tasks. Competencies (level 7): The graduate can solve problems, coordinate procedures in teams and make independent and responsible decisions in a changing environment, is ready to take responsibility for his activities and decisions, taking into account wider social consequences, can formulate information about the procedure and results of solving tasks, communicate professional opinions with experts . Graduates of the study program "Renewable energy sources" are able to work in companies that deal with the issue of thermal technology, in manufacturing and non-manufacturing companies and in the municipal sphere, in various positions such as designer, manager of thermal technology, designer of thermal equipment, boilers and heat exchangers, technician in the field of renewable energy sources, municipal and industrial energy engineer, measurement and regulation technician, designer of heating systems, boiler rooms, heating plants, gas distribution systems, technician in the field of process and thermal technology, as well as measurement and regulation technology. At the same time, they have the necessary knowledge and skills of a theoretical and applied nature with a focus on the issue of renewable energy sources. They know how to design and project them, including their implementation, in all phases of the project activity, from design to documentation processing to implementation. Graduates also have related knowledge about control systems, the basics of PC technology applications in the energy industry, management of centralized heat supply systems, the basics of management and economics, ecology and environmental protection, safety and health at work, etc.

List and characteristics of the study programme classroomsFVT TUKE is located in Prešov in two separate complexes.
